Apple still affected by corona measures: workers are not allowed to leave iPhone factory

The world’s largest iPhone factory of Apple supplier Foxconn is still affected by strict corona measures. Authorities announced on Wednesday that a lockdown in the district of the eastern Chinese metropolis of Zhengzhou, where the Foxconn factory is located, has been lifted.

However, the building was still in a so-called control room. A spokesman for the Taiwanese company confirmed that the factory would continue to operate in a “closed cycle”. That is why employees are not allowed to leave the premises.

Apple announced Monday that it was struggling with significant delivery problems for the new iPhone 14 Pro during the major Christmas business due to the lockdown in Zhengzhou. In the days before, chaotic scenes had taken place around the factory.

Despite strict lockdowns, the number of new corona infections in China continued to rise on Wednesday. According to the National Health Commission, there have been 8,176 infections across the country since the previous day. The number of infections is higher than since the two-month lockdown in the eastern Chinese port city of Shanghai in March and April.
