Millions of Instagram users were affected by a technical glitch on the social media platform on Monday. The problem has now been resolved, the company announced via Twitter.

What exactly happened?

What was the reason?

Other than it being Monday, it must have been a basic server issue.

Just a few days earlier, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram were already experiencing significant disruptions.

The recent problems are not only occurring in Europe, but also in the US and other countries. The WDR digital expert Jörg Schieb says this points to a more fundamental problem, for example with the databases: “For example, it would be conceivable that some database servers needed for login sometimes go down.”

In total, about six percent of Instagram users could be affected.
