Convertible varieties are gradually narrowing down. On the one hand, they offer little room for electric or plug-in hybrid driving and are also not very suitable as a first car for the family. A few manufacturers still offer vehicles for outdoor fun: We’ve rounded up eight of the coolest convertibles.

one

Audi A5 Cabriolet

1/4
If you want to combine driving pleasure with suitability for daily use, you can trust Audi’s mid-range A5 model with a mild hybrid gasoline engine and 204 hp for 64,750 francs.

Audi currently offers only a single open model: the mid-range A5 and S5 Cabriolet. The A5 combines driving pleasure with suitability for daily use and starts from top to bottom as a 204 hp mild hybrid gasoline engine with prices starting from 64,750 francs. Gone is the iconic two-seat TT Roadster, whose production ends at the end of 2023. But Audi still has a few stock vehicles. Production of the R8 super sports car, which also has an open-top version, has also been stopped.

2

BMW Z4 Roadster

1/2
At BMW, the open 4 Series is considered a rival to the Audi A5. Cost of the basic model: from 66,200 francs.

BMW’s direct rival to the A5 Convertible is the 4 Series Convertible. The entry-level option here is a two-liter gasoline engine with 184 hp, with prices starting from 66,200 francs. The Z4 Roadster is slightly cheaper and smaller. The price of the entry-level version sDrive 20i with 197 hp, manual transmission and rear-wheel drive starts from 56,200 francs.

3

Fiat 500e

If you want to travel openly with a future-proof electric drive, you can’t avoid Fiat’s 500e. The iconic kissing ball made of open-top fabric has been on the market since 2021 and travels up to 420 kilometers across our cities. Outside the city, the range decreases to a maximum of 300 kilometers. If the price (starting from 38,700 francs) and electric drive don’t suit you, you can still use the soft top on the regular 500 with a hybrid petrol engine: starting from 22,087 francs, it is also the cheapest convertible in this overview.

4

Ford Mustang

Like almost all manufacturers, Ford will focus on electromobility in the coming years and will invest around 50 billion francs to develop new electric cars. So if you still want to own the current version of the powerful car with a five-liter V8 engine, you should get it soon because its successor, just like the Dodge Charger, will be fully electric. The price of the current Mustang Convertible with a fabric roof, a 10-speed automatic transmission (with a 6-speed manual transmission optional) and 449 hp starts from 71,800 francs.

5

Mazda MX-5

Mazda’s iconic roadster MX-5 provides proof that obvious driving fun doesn’t mean financial ruin. While other cars got bigger and heavier, the two-seater impressed with its lightweight construction and curb weight of only around 1,000 kilos. It doesn’t matter that the rear-wheel drive car produces 132 horsepower on paper; There’s still plenty of driving fun to be had, and it starts from just 35,600 francs.

Mercedes CLE Cabriolet

1/2
The Mercedes-AMG SL starts at 156,780 francs with a four-cylinder turbo and 381 hp.

After Mercedes removed the convertible versions of the C- and E-Class from its portfolio and replaced them with the CLE Cabriolet, the German automaker is offering just one more convertible. The open-top model Mercedes-AMG SL is offered for sale at prices starting from 156,780 francs for the 43 model with a four-cylinder turbo and 381 hp. On the other hand, the CLE starts at 74,200 francs with the 200 with a four-cylinder engine and 227 horsepower.

7

Porsche 718 Boxster

Porsche’s entry into the world of motorsport is the Coupé Cayman and its open-top twin, the Boxster. And the 718 models are nothing but children of sorrow: the two-liter turbo with 300 horsepower chases the compact athletes to the 100 speed threshold in just under five seconds and to a maximum speed of 275 km/h. But prices are also sporty: they start at 75,000 francs for the open 718 Boxster, 2,600 francs less for the closed Cayman.

8.

VW T-Roc Cabriolet

Land Rover once tried the unusual mix of SUV and convertible with the Evoque – with rather modest success. This didn’t stop VW, Europe’s largest automaker, from applying the same concept to its successful T-Roc model. The convertible version of the compact SUV has to be without 4×4 for technical reasons, but has a soft top that folds into the short rear in nine seconds. The entry-level version with a one-liter three-cylinder and 116 hp starts at 42,500 francs.
