Convertible varieties are gradually narrowing down. On the one hand, they offer little room for electric or plug-in hybrid driving and are also not very suitable as a first car for the family. A few manufacturers still offer vehicles for outdoor fun: We’ve rounded up eight of the coolest convertibles.

Audi currently offers only a single open model: the mid-range A5 and S5 Cabriolet. If the price (starting from 38,700 francs) and electric drive don’t suit you, you can still use the soft top on the regular 500 with a hybrid petrol engine: starting from 22,087 francs, it is also the cheapest convertible in this overview.

Like almost all manufacturers, Ford will focus on electromobility in the coming years and will invest around 50 billion francs to develop new electric cars. So if you still want to own the current version of the powerful car with a five-liter V8 engine, you should get it soon because its successor, just like the Dodge Charger, will be fully electric. The price of the current Mustang Convertible with a fabric roof, a 10-speed automatic transmission (with a 6-speed manual transmission optional) and 449 hp starts from 71,800 francs.

Mazda MX-5
Mazda’s iconic roadster MX-5 provides proof that obvious driving fun doesn’t mean financial ruin. While other cars got bigger and heavier, the two-seater impressed with its lightweight construction and curb weight of only around 1,000 kilos. It doesn’t matter that the rear-wheel drive car produces 132 horsepower on paper; There’s still plenty of driving fun to be had, and it starts from just 35,600 francs.

Mercedes CLE Cabriolet
After Mercedes removed the convertible versions of the C- and E-Class from its portfolio and replaced them with the CLE Cabriolet, the German automaker is offering just one more convertible. The open-top model Mercedes-AMG SL is offered for sale at prices starting from 156,780 francs for the 43 model with a four-cylinder turbo and 381 hp.
