The municipal council of Glarus Nord was defrauded of 48,000 francs by a criminal organization. A criminal investigation has now been launched to clarify the crime. The audit committee is also investigating the incident.
Apparently the municipality believed it was paying for services from a well-known international company, the board announced on Thursday. However, the money subsequently ended up with a criminal organization that, according to the statement, is “extremely targeted and likely targets SMEs and public institutions.”
This was preceded by false email communications with former and current municipal employees. The emails are individually tailored to the personnel organizational structure of the municipality of Glarus Nord.
