A record bike for a record cyclist: Geneva’s young e-bike company Miloo developed the Adventure Beast model especially for ski king Marco Odermatt (26). Like Neo brand ambassador Odermatt, Adventure breaks many records: In the lightest version, the bike, which supports speeds up to 45 km/h, weighs only around 17 kilos, making it the lightest S-Pedelec – that’s how fast it is. It is also called bicycles in the market. At the same time, the more powerful of the two existing mid-motors produces up to 1000 watts of maximum power and 100 Nm of torque; These are the highest values in the segment.
Blick had the opportunity to try out for himself what Marco Odermatt was waiting for in a private test before the superbike’s launch at the official presentation of the Adventure Beast in April. The meeting point is the Miloo showroom, opening in 2022, not far from Zurich Bahnhofstrasse. Olivier Fabrikant (62), Miloo’s General Manager for German-speaking Switzerland, lists the most important information before starting: “We use a full carbon frame for adventure. It is not only extremely robust, but also ensures its low weight. Except for the frame, everything on the Adventure Beast is customizable like all other Miloo models.»
From racing to touring bikes
Adventure Beast is based on the gravel bike concept, which is a mix of road bike and trekking bike. Skiass Odermatt is designed to serve as a training device in the summer season so that you can progress efficiently not only on asphalt but also on unpaved roads. Depending on where the bike is used, customers can equip it according to their wishes. At the rear there is not only a carbon luggage rack with LED lights and indicators, but also at the front, where various bags can be attached to the MIK systems. Additional storage options and holders for locks and beverage bottles are also available.
We dive into Zurich traffic around the main station and immediately notice: the Adventure Beast is much more agile than the Classy Beast (25 km/h) and Mighty Beast (45 km/h), which are tuned for safety and comfort. The reason for this is clear: models that Miloo calls “SUV e-bikes” are designed for other uses, are around twice as heavy and have significantly higher rolling resistance due to their wider tires. That’s why the Miloo doesn’t use the autostart system normally mandatory on the sportier Adventure: a small lever on the handlebar accelerates previous models to speeds of up to 20 or 30 km/h without the rider having to pedal.
Almost always full power
The focus of the new Beast is on driving pleasure rather than high comfort. And this is certainly present: no matter how quiet the X-Line mid-engine runs, it accelerates the adventure just as powerfully. In the 45 version, the support, which can be individually adjusted between 25 and 45 km/h via the screen, does not decrease even at higher speeds. Powerful four-piston brakes ensure safety.
The only downside: When shifting using the standard 12-speed transmission (a carbon timing belt is also available as an option), it feels like it takes a second for the engine power to kick in again. Things get especially difficult uphill, when the bike noticeably loses speed due to “turbo lag”. “We offer different software settings even without any delay in the migration process. But this puts more strain on the chain,” explains Fabrikant. If you want it to be more comfortable, you should also choose the optional suspension fork instead of the rigid front suspension.
Its price also breaks records
When it comes to range, the Adventure Beast can boast a lot: The standard 708 Wh battery should reach up to 125 kilometers; realistic as we found after testing. An 812 Wh battery with a range of up to 180 kilometers is also available optionally and can be extended to 280 kilometers with an additional 678 Wh battery in the trunk. Theoretically, the route from Zurich to the second Miloo showroom in Geneva can be covered in one go.
But of course, Odermatt’s new superbike comes with a price. The price of the cheaper version, which supports speeds up to 25 km/h, starts from 7,499 francs. The 45 version we tested with a slightly more powerful engine costs 500 francs more. However, almost all components can be upgraded if desired; so Miloo Adventure Monster buyers can quickly reach the five-figure range. The price of Marco Odermatt’s latest training device is also breaking a record.
