Peugeot’s previous electric models offered one thing above all else: automotive light fare. Like all electric vehicles of the Stellantis Group, the Lion brand’s vehicles did not go beyond a modest 136 or 156 hp and front-wheel drive. Especially in cars such as the SUV van 5008 family, this power was not enough to make progress in accordance with the person’s situation.

But everything is supposed to be different in the new version: on the one hand, the length of the 5008 increases by 15 centimeters, reaching 4.79 meters, thus extending almost to the upper class and at the same time visually looking much more confident. Moreover, electric drives are finally available that can overcome the increasing competition not only in Europe but also in the Far East.

The best electric car for 4×4

The electric 5008, like its little brother the e-3008, is available with front-wheel drive, producing 213 hp (157 kW) or 231 hp (170 kW) with the larger battery pack, depending on the battery. But of particular interest to Swiss customers is the top version with all-wheel drive, which with its 320 hp (237 kW) reaches new levels of electrical performance, at least for Peugeot. What’s surprising compared to its rivals is that the 157 kW front electric motor is much more powerful than the 80 kW rear motor.

The Peugeot e-5008 sits on the new STLA-Medium group platform, which also hosts the new Opel Grandland. Depending on the battery pack, there should be a mega range of up to 660 kilometers until the next charging stop! If possible, a battery pack of up to 98 kilowatt hours (kWh) can be used. Even in its smaller 73 kWh version, the E-5008 can travel up to 500 kilometers. The maximum DC charging speed for the large battery is 160 kW. An 11 kW charger is included as standard at launch, which will be expanded to include a 22 kW version at a later date.

The electric crossover is produced at Peugeot’s main factory in Sochaux (F), while batteries are supplied from the in-house battery factory in Douvrin (F). Depending on the trim model, different e-5008 variants are available in 19 or 20 inch models.

up to seven places

Thanks to its 2.89 meter long wheelbase, there is room for up to seven people inside. In the top version, front row passengers look at a 21-inch panoramic screen; The entry-level version of the Peugeot e-5008 Allure only offers two interconnected 10-inch screens. Various functions are operated via the touch screen, freely assignable direct buttons on the center console or by voice. Up to 40 driver assistance functions ensure safety in the vehicle. For the first time, the Frenchman also offers semi-automatic lane changing; This is a first for Peugeot.

The loading volume behind the electric tailgate varies depending on the seating position: it is still 259 liters in the seven-seater, a good 748 liters in the five-seater, and reaches 1815 liters with the rear seats fully folded. There is another 80 liters of volume under the third row seats. If you wish, you can order heated seats, sunshades, two USB ports, cup holders and your own temperature control for the second row. The market launch of the new Peugeot 5008 is expected to take place in the autumn. After this date, in addition to the electric versions, a 136 hp (100 kW) mild hybrid will also be available. Prices are not yet known; We estimate the E-5008 will start around 50,000 francs.
