Citroën Holidays: Retro caravan
Hello Citroën! The caravan world has never seen a cooler van than the Type Holidays concept introduced last year (a reference to the iconic Type H). Its basis is the Spacetourer transporter with two sliding doors placed in an optically retro shell by Italian coachbuilder Caselani. Distinctive features: Fiat 500’s googly-eyed headlights, Citroën mega-finned oversized radiator grille and large corrugated metal patterns. The interior design of the Bravia Mobile remains classic: at the back there are various cabinets with a wooden effect, and at the front there is a kitchenette with stove, sink and refrigerator. The bench for two can be converted into a bed; There are two more sleeping options upstairs in the retractable roof. From spring, the Holidays will arrive at Citroën dealers in both the usual Spacetourer guise and (for an additional fee) as a Caselani retromobile. You can choose between two diesel engines (145/180 hp) with manual switch or automatic switch. Price:%s? It is not yet known. The price of the previous one started from 57,200 francs.
Ford Nugget: Bulli’s biggest rival
Ford is also introducing the Nugget camper version this year, based on the new Transit Custom. The new gold piece (English: Nugget) stays true to its tried and tested concept: while the best of campers, the VW California, lifts its roof forward, you place it at the back of the Nugget – this creates the necessary headroom for the kitchen in the morning without having to fold the double bed located in the rear At the back, where you can prepare your espresso vertically. There is room for two more people in the loft bed. The base Nugget comes in summer with a 170 hp (125 kW) turbodiesel with an 8-speed automatic and front-wheel drive; All-wheel drive is also available as an option. It wasn’t until the end of the year that Ford offered the first plug-in hybrid drive caravan with 232 hp (171 kW). Electric range is expected to be around 50 kilometers. No price yet; Transit Custom Nugget currently starts at around 62,000 francs.
Mercedes V-Class Marco Polo: The noble adventurer
With the completely revised V-Class, Mercedes is also re-launching the Marco Polo camper version. The elegant caravan features an illuminated radiator grille on the outside and the interior now features optional ambient lighting in 64 colours. Network connectivity, multimedia system and driving assistants are also updated. The interior warm air auxiliary heater with “yacht look upholstery” provides comfort even on cool days. You sleep on the 2-person bench next to the kitchenette, which turns into a comfortable lounge chair. There is room for two more passengers in the electrically open sunroof. The Marco Polo is offered in diesel versions with power from 163 to 237 hp (120 to 174 kW), rear- or all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Prices start around 87,900 francs. There won’t be an all-electric version based on the recently revised EQV (click here for the drive report).
VW T7 California: Fresh original
The iconic VW Bulli, California is probably the most famous camper van in the world and was launched in 1989 based on the then VW T3. Although the seventh generation has been on the market for more than two years, fans are still waiting for the camper version of the T7. In the autumn, VW finally made an appearance and presented the T7 California as a concept; the latter is scheduled to celebrate its official premiere in the summer. The new T7 California will have two sliding doors on the left and right for the first time and a particularly practical kitchen solution. Working close to production is protected from rain or sun on both sides by an articulated arm awning or sun sail. Many practical details should also be on board, such as kitchen cabinets accessible from inside and outside, compact grill or USB-C sockets in the kitchen block and LED lights in the sunroof. In addition to the front-wheel drive diesel, a plug-in version with optional all-wheel drive will likely follow. The current T6.1 starts at 65,290 francs as California Beach.
