The international “Car of the Year” jury made its decision: Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is the 2024 Car of the Year in Europe! In the final, the all-electric crossover won against seven competitors with 329 votes from 58 jury members from 22 countries, including Blick Auto boss Andreas Faust.

The announcement of the rankings also signaled the start of the Geneva International Motor Show 2024 (February 27 – March 3). And it was exciting until the end: Points were distributed alphabetically by country in the Eurovision Song Contest. BMW’s 5 Series was on the back foot from the start, but Renault then fought its way up. In the end, 21 points were decisive: BMW had to narrowly concede defeat with 329 votes to 308.

Already the seventh championship in 60 years

The most prestigious, independent award has been awarded since 1964. Renault won the championship for the seventh time and in 1997 the first generation of the Scenic topped the podium. This year, at least 22 judges chose it as their favorite; It reached number ten among 22 countries. It will be available in Switzerland in the first half of the year and prices will start from 40,000 francs.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is technically based on the Renault Megane launched last year, adopting lightweight construction, battery technology and driveability, but offering significantly more space in the rear and boot. The entire Renault team was already in a great mood as the points were being awarded. It’s no surprise: the group was the only European car manufacturer represented at the Geneva Motor Show and therefore also a leader among the audience.

So what does the winner say? Celebrating the victory, Renault CEO Luca de Meo (57) said: “We have gone through a brutal restructuring process: “After a loss of eight billion euros, we are now profitable again. But what is much more important to me is this: We produce cars! Scenic’ “The fact that now has won this prestigious title is a great validation for the entire team.”
