Sleeping near technological devices: a health hazard?

Today, it is common for homes to have a Wi-Fi network, which allows you to connect to the Internet through various devices, such as mobile phones, computers, tablets, televisions, among many others.

And electronic devices are taking up an increasing part of the time of thousands of people around the world. In recent years, they have been introduced into everyday life, to the extent that many have replaced items such as alarm clocks with cell phone alarms.

Although it is true that these devices make life much easier, it should also be taken into account that they can cause negative effects, unknown to most people. And, although they are not visible, electronic devices generally emit electromagnetic fields that threaten and impair the body’s defenses.

The problem, according to experts, is in using technology in the bedroomAlthough it may seem harmless, it creates some implications that could affect your health. That’s why it’s important to understand these devices and have balance when using them.

Technological devices used in the bedroom most often have the function of comfort, but in the long run they can even have fatal consequences for health.

Devices that should be out of the bedroom.

1. Ceiling Wi-Fi routers

It is not recommended to have these devices in the bedroom. Wi-Fi routers have a type of energy called electromagnetic radiation that is used to send information. Consequently, it can cause insomnia, depression or cause cancer.

The energy coming from this device usually creates electromagnetic fields (EMF), in 2011 World Health Organization confirmed that EMF could be related to the occurrence of cancer.

2. Mobile phones

Using a cell phone in the bedroom could disrupt sleep thanks to exposure to blue light. Sleep experts say this light can take time away from sleep stages, affecting cognitive functioning. You can also develop brain tumors.

3. Electric blankets.

Doctors from the University of California (UCLA) note that while the body is resting, the body temperature drops, and blankets could cause the body to overheat unintentionally. The body lowers its temperature so that it can sleep and fall asleep quickly.

4. Smart beds and pillows

Beds and pillows aim to optimize sleep. But their abuse can endanger your health. The body causes small electrical signals that could be affected by the EMF released by these devices.

5. Air purifiers

Most purifiers tend to release ions and ozone in large amounts and this causes higher levels of chemicals such as ethanol, acetone and toluene.

These chemicals can cause some health diseases such as irritation of the throat, nose and eyes, nausea, damage to various organs such as the kidneys and liver.

6. Massagers included

These devices can cause fires when plugged in. Not only that, but many people use them while lying down and this can cause headaches, muscle pain, bruising, fatigue, dizziness, skin irritation or anxiety.

7. Sleep companions

Sleep trackers are applications that are usually installed on a watch or on pillows, they are responsible for obtaining sleep statistics. Depending on how the user deals with their sleep results, it can cause obsession, anxiety, insomnia and stress.

Another expert tip is to position your bed in such a way that there is enough space between the bed and the electrical lines on the walls and ceiling. The headboard can be separated from the bed by at least 30 cm. Depending on the remaining space, you can occupy that space with some auxiliary piece of furniture for storing books or decorative items.

Remove the metal headboards that serve as amplifiers of electric fields.
