There’s nothing like clear pronunciation. But many Americans are not fully aware of this. When someone talks about the awesome new Czinger sports car brand at a car fan convention in California, they’re usually met with only bored looks. Singer – They’ve been making great retro Porsches based on old 911s for 15 years; very special, very fast, very expensive and very well known. But mistake; This is about Czinger.
The brand is named after Los Angeles father and son Kevin, 63, and Lukas Czinger, 28, blessed with an enthusiastic passion for cars, even by US standards. Founded in 2019, this company doesn’t develop Porsches and has a wide berth in sports cars from other brands: Koenigsegg is Koenigsegg, and Czinger is just a Czinger.
No more classical methods
«Czinger wants to fundamentally change the way cars are designed and manufactured. There are no creative constraints due to tools or costs,” says David O’Connell, co-founder and head of design. It relies on aesthetic purity and technical innovation; only the things that are absolutely necessary belong in the car. Transparent surfaces create an original, timeless design. But above all, the driving performance should inspire and even take the breath away of the most die-hard sports car fans.
The first work, the hyper sports car 21C, was created entirely by computer; Artificial intelligence (AI) calculated the aerodynamics at maximum speed. The analogue start was still difficult: The corona pandemic put an end to the world premiere at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show.
The 21C’s base hybrid drive delivers 1250 hp (932 kW); An additional 100 hp (74 kW) can be ordered as an option. The output per liter of displacement promises a world record of 330 hp (245 kW). The electrically assisted 2.9-liter eight-cylinder engine catapults the car to 100 km/h in less than two seconds. The vehicle can also use methanol or other e-fuels, as conventional fuel is seen as an immediate solution for digital-only Czingers. It is recycled from carbon and ideally operates without emissions.
Fast thanks to e-fuels
The downforce, that is, the contact pressure on the asphalt, is almost no less impressive at high speeds. Reaching a speed of 305 km/h, the two-door flat car is pressed to the ground with a two-ton weight, and thus it can go on the ceiling without falling.
But Czinger is not only fast, it is also expensive and exclusive. Only 80 units of the 21C are expected to be produced in the coming months. The 21C Vmax is derived from this, featuring an elongated and aerodynamically optimized rear profile, much like rival McLaren’s long-tail models. Thanks to its smooth body design, it adds even more speed to the road; It takes only 27.1 seconds to reach 400 km/h. The maximum speed of the 1.4 ton car is 407 km/h.
The creation of the two-seater is even more impressive. Each 21C is created digitally using supercomputers and artificial intelligence. So what does this actually mean? Is computer-aided design obsolete? The chassis was designed productively: each component was optimized for its function, so that not a single gram of material was wasted or unnecessary weight added to the vehicle.
The parts are manufactured using 3D technology from patented alloys and then assembled into a larger whole using laser-controlled robotic technology. The Czingers did not have to worry about the feasibility or limitations of machine tools or sheet metal presses for body construction.
Prototype of big change
In addition, the 21C chassis is intended to break records in terms of lightweight structure, resource consumption, durability, power and safety. “21C represents more than seven years of technology development and hundreds of millions of dollars of investment,” says Lukas Czinger. “His technology will fundamentally change the automotive industry.”
Despite all the enthusiasm for cars, this is where the true meaning of the sports car lies. Father Kevin works as the founder, CEO and creative soul at the start-up company Divergent on new development and production processes for the automotive industry. The V8 car is just a finger exercise to show possible applications.
This brings not only impressive performance and maximum efficiency, but also a huge price tag of over two million US dollars. The result is not only a magnificent hybrid athlete for maximum attention, but also a special interior made of carbon and a small storage compartment with space for a custom-made luggage set. Of course, the AI also calculated its size.
