The Geneva Motor Show has had to be canceled many times in the last four years. However, in 2024, the Geneva International Motor Show, officially called GIMS, will be rearranged. Much smaller, much shorter, and a little earlier than usual.

The latter in particular is likely to irk the organizers of the Töffmesse Motofestival in Bern. Because the annual Moto Festival in the Bernexpo region, which attracts the attention of more than 40,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from Thursday, February 29th to Sunday, March 3rd, will now take place from Wednesday, February 28th to Sunday, March 3rd. The legendary Geneva Motor Show, which has been reborn after four consecutive cancellations, will take place for the third time.

Don’t worry about cannibalism

Officially, the Bern Moto Festival organizers are unimpressed by the clash of dates between two exhibitions of national importance for an audience interested in mobility. “From our perspective, the target audience is not the same,” says Bern. “While in Geneva the focus is on four-wheeled customers and the benefit factor is of great importance, our Motofestival visitors focus on the emotional experience, an attractive support program and, when it comes to products, primarily the entertainment sector,” says the Töffmesse organization in Bern.

Well, isn’t almost everyone a motorcycle rider? In any case, we wonder whether the two exhibitions will attract visitors from each other. In any case, the prospects for public participation are ambitious for both participants. Motofestival aims to attract more than 43,000 visitors since last year. And in Geneva, they have almost utopian hopes, with expectations of 200,000 visitors for a motor show with 29 exhibitors but only three actual car brands (also interesting: all information about the Geneva Motor Show 2024). But as we all know, hope dies last.

What’s on offer in Bern?

While the GIMS motor show in Geneva is currently reinventing itself, the offerings at the Töffmesse in Bern are similar to last year. “This year, visitors to Switzerland’s largest motorized two-wheeled event can once again look forward to an attractive presentation of the motorcycles, scooters and accessories available, as well as a colorful mix of action and entertainment,” the organizers promise. Except for Renault and Dacia, almost all the well-known brands are absent from the motor show in Geneva, but many key players in the two-wheeler industry are at the motorcycle trade fair in Bern, including BMW, Ducati, Honda, Indian Motorcycles, Kawasaki, KTM, Moto Morini, Suzuki and Triumph.

Of course, the Moto Festival should, as always, be a folk festival. In addition to a variety of special and action shows (including indoor off-road racing, e-sports games), a variety of street food stands ensure visitors’ culinary well-being on exhibition days – and on Friday and Saturday evenings rock out concerts are also included in the ticket price, with Shakra and DJ Cruze included in the ticket price for additional entertainment .
