To achieve greater electric range, many manufacturers are working on the aerodynamics of their vehicles. The same goes for the Chinese company Chery. A friction coefficient of only 0.168…

The resemblance of the futuristic Chery work to a fish is not entirely a coincidence. In addition to artificial intelligence, Doga also assisted Chinese developers with computer calculations when designing the vehicle test vehicle.

The shape of the concept car is largely inspired by the aerodynamic body of a tuna. Based on the folding of the dorsal fin of the tuna, Chery developers designed air control elements similar in shape to reduce the air resistance coefficient as much as possible.

After more than 2,000 computer modifications, a drag coefficient of 0.168 was finally achieved for the electric test vehicle. An absolute record. Never before has a vehicle from an Asian manufacturer achieved such a good drag coefficient. At 0.168, the Chery prototype is more efficient than, for example, the teardrop-shaped solar car Lightyear 0 (0.175) or the Lucid Air production model (0.197).

Mass production is not planned

“With our concept, we show what is currently possible in our battery-electric model range,” explains Jochen Tüting (49), managing director of the Chery development center in Raunheim, Germany. “As a traditional automaker, we are a technology-focused company with more than 5,500 developers worldwide,” says Tüting, explaining the potential of the Chery Group. “And with our aerodynamic concept vehicle we provide an insight into our continuous efforts to develop innovative technologies for the benefit of our customers.”

Mass production of the prototype is not planned. However, information from the study needs to be incorporated into future Chery series models (for example, vehicles from Chery brands Omoda and Jaecoo that will be launched this year).
