The Moscow Polytechnic University presented the prototype of the Russian electric car “Amber” on December 18. The vehicle has been sarcastically referred to as the ‘Tesla Killer’ on social media platforms.
Its development reportedly took place on behalf of the Avtotor factory in Kaliningrad. It was previously known for producing BMW, Ford, KIA and Hyundai cars until Western sanctions came into effect.
Production from 2025
Amber distinguishes itself not only by its design, a Ukrainian online medium mocks, “but also by the claim that the motor, inverter, control cards and batteries will be of Russian origin.”
It may even turn out that most of the components of “Amber” come from China, as is often the case in the Russian Federation.
A post on auto.ru states that the production model will look different. Mass production in Kaliningrad would begin in 2025.
A whole family of compact electric cars is planned for different purposes, including models for young people and people with disabilities.
