Kievstar, Ukraine’s largest provider, was hit by huge technical problems on Tuesday.
Apparently the mobile network and landlines stopped working in several regions.
- National roaming is affected, that is, connections between Ukrainian providers.
- Some bank terminals and ATMs were affected.
- In the city of Sumy, in northeastern Ukraine, the airstrike warning system is not working.
- Repair work is underway.
- The Ministry of Infrastructure aims to restore communications within 4-5 hours.
The company’s website was also no longer available on Tuesday morning.
As “Kiyv Independent” writes, subscribers reported massive communication disruptions, indicating that problems have occurred in Kyiv, Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts.
At X (Twitter) this was said by the independent news service @Flash_news_uaThe cause was a hacker attack “on the core of the network”. Kievstar’s initial statement said nothing about the cause.
The company announced on Facebook:
The company’s specialists are working to solve the problem (…).”
Unconfirmed reports of a total failure made the rounds on the social media platform, however, individual users objected that all services were “down”.
Kyivstar is considered Ukraine’s largest telecom provider, with more than 24 million mobile customers and more than 1 million fixed internet customers (as of September 2023).
