Motorola may launch not just one, but two foldable Razr smartphones in 2023. The company may also want to unveil a Z Fold 4 competitor.
Samsung is the leader in this segment with almost 10 million foldable smartphones sold in 2021. So there are few competitors that Samsung has to compete with. Motorola last released a foldable Razr in 2020, and the Huawei and OPPO foldable phones are not available in Europe. More Motorola Razr in 2023
Rumor monger Blass states that two Razr phones will be in development for 2023. According to the tweet, the foldable phones will be developed under the codenames Juno and Venus. That’s in line with codenames the brand has previously given to Razr phones, like the Razr 2022, known as Maven.
Further details of the foldable Motorola Razr smartphone are not mentioned in the tweet. Expected next year we’ll see another successor to the current clamshell Razr that’s similar to the Z Flip 4. Additionally, it’s likely that the company is working on a competitor for the Z Fold 4, Samsung’s current top-of-the-line foldable phone. At the same time, it’s possible that Motorola will offer a cheaper Razr smartphone that’s more accessible to more people. It is also possible that Motorola – like OPPO – will develop a foldable device exclusively for China.
Under Lenovo’s tutelage, the company doesn’t seem afraid to experiment. It recently showed off a rollable phone that can roll up vertically. It’s a technology that won’t reach consumers for now, but that could change in a few years. This shows that the company’s focus may be slowly shifting to the high-end segment and thus to the Razr series.
Launch Razr 2022
Before that, Motorola will launch the Razr 2022 later this year. This device launched in China back in August and would later be released globally. The company confirmed at the launch of the Edge 30 series in Milan that the Razr will come to Europe this year. A start date was not mentioned. Luckily, with only two months out of the year, this is never far behind.
