Bogota Colombia. It is urgently necessary to change the educational model in Latin America, said this Monday, Claudias Uribe, director of UNESCO, during the inauguration of LAC ICT TALEN2023 SUMMER, which is held in Bogota Colombia with the participation of young people and businessmen from different countries.
Uribe, confirms the lack of education in the region and advocates for equalization students’ conditions and make the education system more flexible, which allows better preparation and access to technology.
“We have to change urgently educational system nen all countries of this continent. This is our great weakness; For 30 years we have worked on many aspects and today we can say that 50% of students between the third and fifth grade are not prepared and this becomes more acute in the sixth grade, this problem tends to grow in our region.”
“Today, the population does not learn in the basic education system and it is important to have a basis for access to the use of technology. There are many pockets of poverty in our region,” Uribe said outside students and representatives of the Colombian governmentnews agency EFE and technology transnational company Huawei.
“There is a large population that is falling behind and we all need to help catch up, to be more competitive. Our education system requires access now, and technology is an important part of achieving the changes that are needed. our students demand to have more opportunities in their professional lives,” Uribe concluded.
On the other hand, Oscar Becerra, former Minister of Education of Peru, says that “in Latin America is going in a different direction in educational matters, This is something that does a lot of damage to education are the strikes of educators and we can put it there China is an example, “They don’t have those problems and that’s how they lifted 600 million people out of poverty in recent years.”
“Artificial intelligence has a side effect, we are going backwards, and language is violent, we are literally killing each other and hating each other more and more, these tools must serve dialogue. Dialogue is what makes us human, and education is what makes us. The lack is the desire to learning. Let’s use technology to develop what we do well, like digital talent development, technology can do that,” Becerra said.
From your side Juan Bonora from Huawei Argentina, They agree that there is a big technological gap and that the main goal of this company is to work with talented young people. “We are losing the use of languages, technology could help us if we use them tools. HUAWEI “They have several programs with young people and there will be about 2.5 million of them ready to help the digital transformation in the world, we are looking for ways to reduce the technology gap.”
On the other side Valtensir Mendes, head of education at UNESCO He assured that “6 out of every 10 students in Latin America do not have the ability to read, and 8 out of every 10 do not understand basic mathematical operations, this is the result of a study carried out before the pandemic, the result we expect now is catastrophic. We need projects in different countries and to have more education important for governments and society.”
