Things will get exciting on Monday, November 27: Then it will be decided which model will win the title of “Swiss Car of the Year 2024”. Schweizer Illustrierte is organizing this selection for the twelfth time together with its main partner AutoScout24 and Blick, Sonntagsblick, L’illustré and La Domenica. The 13-member jury, led by jury president and former Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn (52), made its decision in October. First, a shortlist was selected from 39 new models nominated by manufacturers this year. The jury then tested these eleven models for a day at the TCS Training and Event Betzholz Center in Hinwil ZH.
Only models introduced in the current year and available at dealers by the end of March 2024 at the latest were allowed to be nominated. In addition, only completely new vehicles or vehicles that received a new electric drive during the overhaul, i.e. fully electric version, hybrid, plug-in hybrid or mild hybrid, were allowed. Simple makeovers in the sense of design retouches or new colors in the interior were not allowed to be nominated.
The biggest challenge in the decision was the diversity of the candidates. From compact electric cars to commercial sedans, from family-friendly seven-seaters to hybrid legends, it was all there. The winning models will be announced on the evening of November 27. Blick presents ten candidates in advance.
bmw i5
With the new generation, BMW’s 5 Series business sedan is now available not only as a diesel, gasoline engine and plug-in hybrid, but also as a fully electric version. Depending on the version, power is between 340 and 601 hp and a range of up to 579 kilometers is possible. Prices start from 85,200 francs.
Dacia jogger hybrid
From a cheap brand to a cool one: With its new logo, new design ideas and new technology, Dacia wants to impress with much more than a low price. The Jogger family minibus, which can seat up to seven seats, features a 140 hp hybrid drive for the first time. Prices start from 25,890 francs.
Fiat 600e
The traditional Italian brand once again relies on the Jö factor and the design of the 500: Fiat turns the electric Cinquecento into a grown-up city crossover called the 600e. It has five seats and can travel 404 kilometers with 156 horsepower. Prices start from 37,990 francs.
Honda e:Ny1
One of three models that are completely new this year: Honda’s second electric car comes in the format of a compact SUV with huge touch screens, produces 204 hp and can travel 412 kilometers on a single battery charge. Its price starts from 45,990 francs.
Hyundai Kona
The design has become more eccentric, but the concept is the same: even in the completely redesigned second generation of the compact SUV, the choice remains between a gasoline engine with all-wheel drive, a gasoline hybrid and a pure electric drive. It starts from 37,900 francs.
Jeep Revenge
There has never been a Jeep like this before: compact for the city, just over four meters long and with 156 electric horsepower, or plenty of room as a 100-horsepower turbo-petrol engine. Although it’s missing an all-wheel drive system, Jeep’s smallest car can tackle rough terrain thanks to its dedicated traction control. Prices starting from 29,990 francs.
Kia EV9
Huge and still electric: With the EV9, an SUV that can seat up to seven people, Kia is launching its first electric minivan and a new interior concept with swiveling seats. Initially there is up to 385 hp and a range of 563 kilometers. Prices? Prices starting from 75,950 francs.
Opel Astra Electric
Electric reference from Rüsselsheim: The Astra launched in 2022 will receive an electric version with 156 hp and a range of 418 kilometers, based on the newly revised Stellantis electric platform, and will also come as a station wagon. Prices start from 46,500 francs.
Toyota Prius PHEV
New image for the hybrid pioneer first launched 25 years ago: Prius is now only available as a plug-in hybrid with a sporty 233 hp, 70 kilometers of electric range, an innovative cockpit and a fast design. Prices start from 42,900 francs.
VW ID.7
Here comes the electric Passat, so to speak: VW’s first mid-range electric car, offering up to 286 hp, a range of around 700 kilometers and plenty of space. All-wheel drive and station wagons with more power are already in the starting blocks. The price of the electric sedan starts from 66,500 francs.
