Nintendo announces new movie

After the huge success of the “Super Mario Bros.” movie, Nintendo is planning a movie based on “The Legend of Zelda.”

The movie “Super Mario Bros.” attracted large numbers of people to the cinemas. Now Nintendo is going a step further: the company confirms that it is working on a live-action adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda.”

The film will be directed by Wes Ball, known for the ‘Maze Runner’ trilogy and the upcoming film ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda and Mario, will serve as co-producer, as he did on this year’s animated film “Super Mario Bros.” did. Avi Arad, who has produced numerous Marvel films over the past two decades, is on board as co-producer.

Miyamoto wrote further It will take some time to finish, but I hope you are looking forward to it.”

Details about the Zelda movie are unknown. It is jointly financed by Nintendo and Sony, with Nintendo providing more than 50 percent of the financing and Sony Pictures Entertainment taking over worldwide distribution.

With films and new amusement parks based around well-known Nintendo games such as ‘Super Mario Bros.’, ‘Zelda’ or ‘Pokémon’, the Japanese are trying to make their brands even better known, which should further stimulate game sales.

In 2015, there were rumors that Nintendo and Netflix were working on a live-action Zelda series, but the project never came to fruition.

This year, “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” the latest installment in the Zelda series, was released. The game sold almost 20 million copies within four months.

A few months ago there was already a small hint of a Zelda film: director Wes Ball wrote on X in June that he was working on the new ‘Zelda’ game.
