That’s what Volvo’s cheapest electric car costs

With the purely electric EX30, Volvo will launch its smallest SUV yet on the road before the turn of the year. The basic version of the 4.23 meter long, angular Swedish electric car has a 200 kW/272 hp electric motor and a 51 kWh battery. This should allow a range of up to 344 kilometers. Price: from 36,800 francs. Alternatively, a version with a 69 kWh battery, capable of traveling 480 kilometers, is available from 41,450 francs.

In the top model, which costs at least 47,350 francs, a second electric motor is optionally used (2,300 francs extra), increasing the system power to 315 kW/428 hp. This version can only be combined with the large battery. The Swedes specify a range of 460 kilometers. Depending on the variant, the charging capacity at the DC column must be a maximum of 153 kW.

Thanks to the wheelbase of 2.65 meters and a flat skateboard platform, there should be plenty of room for children and teenagers. The trunk has a capacity of 318 to 904 liters. There is also a so-called frunk – the storage space under the front engine that is often present in electric cars.

Best sprinter in the history of the company

The top speed is 180 km/h – even current Volvo models with combustion engines do not allow more. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in up to 3.6 seconds makes the EX30 the best sprinter in Volvo’s history to date, the company said.

The standard equipment includes an Android-based infotainment system, a heat pump for efficient heating of the interior and a safety package that includes previously rare assistants such as a warning when opening the door: it is intended to prevent so-called “ door accidents involving cyclists .

Old jeans and pine oil in the interior

The choice of materials must be sustainable: the bodywork consists of 25 percent recycled aluminum and 17 percent recycled steel. The interior uses worn-out jeans, shredded window frames and furniture fabrics made from pine oil.

Although the EX30 is extremely soft and sporty for an SUV, the Swedes, who have been part of the Chinese Geely group since 2010, are also committed to leisure and adventure: a rustic version as the EX30 Cross Country will follow in 2024.
