We rub our eyes: At first glance, we think we’re looking at a Wraith at the unveiling of the new Rolls-Royce Specter. But while the proportions actually match, Rolls-Royce officials never tire of emphasizing that the Specter is an all-new car – electric, elegant and overpriced, of course.

Obviously, it replaces the elegant Phantom Coupé, not the new Specter Wraith. “The Specter shows how well-suited our brand is to electrification. The all-electric powertrain will guarantee the continued success and relevance of the brand. It also reinforces all the features that make Rolls-Royce a Rolls-Royce,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce.

Almost three tons heavy

Like the Wraith, the new Specter is an elegantly designed fastback with a distinctive front, powerful 23-inch wheels and a slightly tapered rear. Their size is simply gigantic. Wheelbase: 3.21 meters. Vehicle length: 5.45 meters. Weight: Just under three tons due to all-wheel drive and more than 100 kWh battery pack in the underbody. After all, standard all-wheel steering allows the massive coupé’s turning circle to be reduced to an acceptable 12.7 metres, allowing the vehicle to be maneuvered reasonably easily.

520 km range

The 585 hp (430 kW) and 900 Nm-strong Specter’s electric range is said to be 520 WLTP kilometers – thanks to the particularly smooth underbody and a good 0.25 drag coefficient. The electric coupé accelerates to 100 km/h in just under 4.5 seconds from stand-up and is electronically limited to a top speed of 250 km/h. Torsten Müller-Ötvös on the character of the new model: “The Specter is first and foremost a Rolls-Royce and secondarily an electric vehicle. Our brand opens a new page for our customers and the luxury industry. I believe the Specter is the greatest product Rolls-Royce has ever produced.”

The interior of the first all-electric Rolls-Royce is surprisingly classic. We already know about similar screens, apps and controls from existing models. The familiar starry sky is complemented by an LED starry landscape on the door and side panels.

Specter, which is equivalent to around 400,000 francs, won’t go on sale until the fall of 2023. However, reservations are accepted right away – and anyone who wants to be one of the first owners of an electric Rolls-Royce should probably hurry.
