Elon Musk has changed the online platform. The American media “The Daily Beast” reported on the protest on Tuesday evening.
The initiators write on their website:
What is Elon Musk accused of?
All allegations relate to Musk’s behavior at X after he took over Twitter at the end of October 2022 and later renamed the online platform.
The website ‘X Out Hate’, which was launched in response to the protest, explains why the tech billionaire and X boss is considered so problematic.
Under Musk, content moderation at X was scaled back. He also allowed previously banned Jew haters back onto the online platform. And the Tesla founder was willing to spread “overt anti-Semitism” by, among other things, supporting hate campaigns against the Anti Defamation League (ADL), a non-profit organization based in New York that fights against discrimination and prevents defamation of Jews.
Some of the most egregious examples include:
- Musk’s involvement in the hashtag #BanTheADL, a campaign started and supported by well-known American neo-Nazi figures.
- Musk’s spread of overt anti-Semitism, such as the false claim that “65 percent of Jewish students support censorship.”
- Musk’s repeated contact with anti-Semitic X-profiles and their promotion by spreading messages to more than 150 million followers.
- Musk’s involvement in spreading anti-Semitic conspiracy stories, such as George Soros’ connection to the Rothschilds and the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, which is considered racist and anti-Semitic.
- Musk also brought back “some of the most vicious anti-Semites in America and beyond” in , the spreader of the conspiracy theory that Jews are lizard people. It should be noted that Anglin’s profile has already been blocked again.
Why is Musk’s behavior so dangerous?
Sooner or later, hatred of Jews turns into violence.
Anti-Semitism is not a new phenomenon, but it has led to the worst crimes in human history, most notably the industrially organized murder of tens of millions of innocent victims by Nazi Germany and its fascist allies.
And now X is playing a dangerous role as the platform enables the spread of hateful content. Musk falsely portrays himself as a fighter for freedom of speech rather than taking decisive action against anti-Semitism.
The Jewish personalities warn:
If extremism and anti-Semitism continue to spread, it threatens not only Jews, but also a free society and everyone affected by the conspiracy theories associated with anti-Semitism.
What do the signatories demand?
The online platform X is financed by advertisements. That is why the signatories of the open letter are calling on influential companies to boycott:
- Disney, Apple, Amazon and other major companies should no longer fund X through their ad spend.
- Apple and Google must remove the X app from their app stores because the application violates the applicable guidelines of the platform operators.
The Jewish personalities take a closer look at companies and government organizations around the world that do business with Musk. They should end their relationships with his various companies.
A direct appeal to him did not help, the signatories ultimately stated. The only effective measure is external pressure. And it has to hit Musk where it hurts: in his wallet.
What does Musk say about the accusations of anti-Semitism?
The tech billionaire did not respond to a request for comment. A media query sent to X’s press email was returned with a standard, meaningless automated response.
