Mega leak reveals the future of Microsoft’s Xbox

The Xbox is hit by the biggest leak in its history. Microsoft gives the Xbox Series X a new design and a new controller. A completely new generation of Xbox is planned for 2028.

Microsoft is planning a redesign of its Xbox Series X for 2024. This is evident from accidentally revealed court documents, reports technology portal The Verge. The documents (PDF) come from the case ‘Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft’. US competition watchdogs wanted to prevent Microsoft’s $69 billion takeover of games publisher Activision Blizzard, but lost in court.

Microsoft therefore plans to renew its current Xbox console in the fall of 2024 with a new, rounded design and new features. Internally, the project runs under the name Brooklin. According to leaked documents, the revised console will ship without a disc drive. An Xbox Series Microsoft’s internal documents reveal that the updated console will have 2TB of storage (up from the previous 1TB), a USB-C port on the front, and an “all-new immersive controller.”

The future Xbox Series X: round instead of square and more energy efficient.

The new version is designed to use less energy thanks to more efficient chips and features future-proof wireless standards with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The US price should remain unchanged at $499.

Codename Sebile: The new Xbox controller also appears in the “FTC v. Microsoft” court documents.

The new controller should be presented before the console redesign. In the description, Microsoft mentions an accelerometer, accurate haptic feedback, Bluetooth 5.2 and direct cloud support. Analog sticks and buttons should be quieter and designed to last longer. The batteries are also replaceable and the controller is automatically activated when lifted.

The renewed Xbox series The new controller is also included.

10th console generation from 2028

Microsoft expects the new console generation from 2028.

The documents also contain a confidential schedule until 2030 (PDF) showing when which new Xbox products should be released. Microsoft is apparently planning a new Xbox generation for 2028, which could focus on “cloud hybrid games”.
