The compact 2 series will be the first to receive a comprehensive update, before the Swedish automaker unveils the Polestar 4 SUV coupé next year and unveils the production version of the Polestar 5. The only thing that has changed visually is the front, which is no longer grilled and is closed, as well as a radar optimized for support systems. The big changes in Polestar 2 are on the driving side.

New components

The new models have larger batteries with a range of up to 655 kilometers, which can be charged with up to 205 kilowatts of DC charging power. The Swedes achieve this thanks, among other things, to increased battery capacity, which goes from 78 kilowatt hours on long-range models to 82 kilowatt hours. At the same time, the waiting time at the charging station has decreased: from 10 percent to 80 percent, it now only takes 28 minutes.

On the other hand, the performance of electric motors has been improved: models with large batteries now have 299 hp (220 kW) and 421 hp (310 kW) for the rear-wheel drive version, instead of the previous 231 hp (170 kW). 408 hp (300 kW) for all-wheel drive (replacing pre-kW). The single-engine version also transfers power to the road from the rear rather than the front wheels.

Polestar is accelerating fast

We get behind the wheel of all-wheel drive: potentially the most interesting model for Swiss customers. Thanks to the optional performance package, our test car reaches a tremendous output of 476 hp (350 kW). With almost 70 hp more than the all-wheel drive predecessor, the power is striking: the enormous torque of 740 Nm literally presses us into our seats – the Swedish car accelerated to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.

The Polestar is still in a good mood on winding roads: a tightly tuned chassis with precise steering, great handling and a performance package. In everyday use this can be a very good thing; You may feel the bumps inside the vehicle on bumps or bad roads. So it is a pity that the electric sedan still does not have different driving modes. In our opinion, this will be important, especially in the performance version, to make it more comfortable or more sporty, depending on your taste.

Android Features

There’s not much new in the interior: it remains as uncluttered as before, and the 11.2-inch center display continues to work in collaboration with Android. This means that functions like “Hey Google” and the Spotify app will remain in place. You hardly notice the optimized radar, the Swedish model brakes early enough with adaptive cruise control, the lane departure warning system works perfectly and never looks tense.

Advert

The renewed Polestar 2 is offered for sale at 48,900 CHF with the cheapest version with a small battery and rear-wheel drive. The price of the top model Long Range Twin Engine model with the Performance package starts at 65,400 francs. You can order the revamped electric limousine now.
