Apple is releasing a lightning update for iPhones, iPads, and Macs

To close a security hole, Apple provided software updates. These are imported via an accelerated procedure.

Apple released updates for its iPhones, iPads and Macs on Thursday. With the versions iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1 and macOS 13.4.1, the company closes a critical security vulnerability in the operating systems.

Apple originally released the updates a few days ago, but pulled them back after problems became known. Affected users reported problems displaying content in the Safari browser. Now Apple has provided an updated version of the update files.

Fast and easy

The updates can be installed on the devices using the new rapid “Rapid Security Response” (RSR) procedure – rapid security measure. This allows updates to close much faster and easier than before.

Until now, Apple has usually bundled security updates with new features or fixes for non-security related software problems. The data packages to be downloaded were therefore often several hundred megabytes in size and the installation made the iPhone unusable for fifteen minutes or more.

Nothing changes for users when dealing with the rapid security updates, they behave like regular software updates. By the way, the version number does not change as a result of an RSR update, but a letter is added to the number. In the current case, the version numbers are iOS 16.5.1 (c), iPadOS 16.5.1 (c), and macOS 13.4.1 (c).
