Opel has had the lightning bolt in its logo since 1964. But things are changing now – in the future there will be a narrow dividing line in the flash, and the lines of these lines will also be stronger. However, the flash connotation remains, as it fits the corporate strategy: Opel wants to go all-electric by 2028, at least in Europe. By the end of the year, 15 electrified models should be in range.

A significantly different logo format with a more powerful, separate flash may have a technical reason: Thicker lines can be more easily and brightly lit – also on future Opel models, as the specialist magazine “Auto-Motor-Sport” suspects. In addition, the logo is now devoid of three-dimensionality – so it can be reproduced on screens at a ratio of 1:1. It is not yet clear which new model will use the renewed logo first. We bet on an all-electric successor to the SUV Grandland. Because: It’s based on Opel’s sister brand Peugeot’s current 3008, which is scheduled to go electric later this year.

48 logos in 161 years

By the way, the removed lightning bolt is the 48th version of the logo since Opel was founded in 1862. The logo was last changed in 2021. it also represents our commitment to be an all-electric brand in Europe by 2028,” says Opel CEO Florian Huettl (46).

We will see the new Blitz live for the first time in September at IAA Mobility in Munich (Germany). Until then, fans have enough time to get used to the new logo.
