“Dynamic Island” – That’s Why Apple Customizes Most Hyped New iPhone Feature

It’s the most advertised innovation in the iPhone 14 Pro, but apparently it’s not quite perfect yet. The manufacturer plans changes to the so-called “Dynamic Island”.

Probably the most noticed innovation of the iPhone 14 Pro bears the prosaic name “Dynamic Island” (in German “Dynamic Island”).

This is the pill-shaped cutout in the display that houses the lens of the selfie camera and the technology for automatic facial recognition (“Face ID”). At the same time, this area is the starting point for a new smart notification system.

But now there should be an adjustment.

Where is the problem?

Apparently this area is not clearly visible under all circumstances – which is why Apple is making changes with the upcoming update to iOS 16.1. That reports the American tech blog MacRumors, which noted the innovations in the beta version of iOS 16.1.

Until now, the black area of the “Dynamic Island” can hardly be distinguished from very dark screen backgrounds. The problem also occurs when the iPhone has dark mode turned on.

What will change?

In order to solve this problem, the “Dynamic Island” will be conditionally surrounded by a thin, gray box in the future, so that it is clear which area the new message function extends over.

The specific size depends on the usage scenario: if the “Dynamic Island” is not currently active, it is just a narrow, pill-shaped black area on the screen, as shown in the image above.

However, this area can dynamically change size and shape – depending on the display function it currently assumes. T-Online has explained this in more detail and made it visible in its test of the iPhone 14 Pro.

However, the new border may not always be visible. In fact, the frame is only activated when the background is very dark or when Dark Mode is activated and the “Dynamic Island” is also actively displaying something or the screen is dimmed.

As a result, there will still be situations in the future where the dark area merges into the background, which is also dark.
