Summer is finally here – during the “Sport for Good” weekend of the Laureus Foundation in Engelberg, winter sports enthusiasts were once again in the spotlight. World Cup winner Marco Odermatt (25) has auctioned off a pair of his racing skis (winning skis from Adelboden) to benefit the foundation, which aims to give children access to sport. The amount: 18,000 francs!

Freeskier Andri Ragettli (24) insisted on paragliding with some of the participants who are afraid of heights during the benefit weekend. Olympic cycling champion Fabian Cancellara, national soccer player Beni Huggel or ex-figure skaters Sarah van Berkel and Denise Bielmann were also among the sporting greats who offered the 150 guests special activities for charity.

A special honor was bestowed on snowboarding legend Gian Simmen during the charity evening at the “Kempinski Palace”: the Olympic champion from Nagano received a special Laureus award. “Gian receives this award from the Board of Trustees for his outstanding commitment over the past year,” said Martin Wittwer, Director of the Laureus Foundation Switzerland. “We can always rely on him completely. That is of course the case with all our ambassadors, but Gian took part in a particularly large number of opportunities last year and became involved unpaid, for which we and the Supervisory Board would like to express a special thanks.” (e.g.)
