The clubs of the Swiss Football League (SFL) must meet all criteria in order to receive the certificate of participation in the professional championship. Cheating is not allowed there. And when it comes to finances, absolute transparency is also required. For several years now, the clubs have had to publish even the most important figures. Also because UEFA requires it to be allowed to participate in their matches.

To check this information and give the green light for a season, people of integrity, integrity and good reputation are above all doubts. If you think so.

The President of the Commission, a lawyer from Bern, who also acts as a judge at the International Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS in Lausanne, has been fined 55 daily rates of 200 francs each, making a total of 11,000 francs, for multiple counterfeiting of documents and multiple surreptitious attempts to obtain fake certificates. Trial for two years.

Lawsuits for company withdrawal

What happened? It is about a legal dispute between a client of the President of the Commission and a former business partner of the same. He, a former Bernese SVP councilor and city councilor, had his signing authority revoked for the two companies at a two-company board meeting involving the president’s ex-business partner and client. Only the president’s client and he attended this meeting. They noted the former business partner in the logbook as apologetic. They have registered this change in the commercial register.

The former business partner then accused the two of having untruthfully recorded in the minutes that he had been absent with an excuse. He was not aware of the VR meetings and was therefore unable to participate. If he had been there, the authority to sign would not have been revoked and the company would not have been removed from the commercial register. That is why the partner took the duo to court.

SFL knew nothing about judging

The regional court of Bern-Mittelland now agreed with the business partner. In addition to the fine, the Bernese lawyer and chairman of the licensing commission was sentenced to a fine of 2,000 francs and to pay 2,488 francs in court costs and 17,364 francs to his client’s ex-business partner for his legal costs.

For its part, the Swiss Football League stated that it had not been informed of the verdict, but that the chairman of the license commission had withdrawn with immediate effect. Regular new elections for all SFL committees will take place on the occasion of the General Assembly in November.

When asked by Blick, the President of the Commission declined to comment on the case, pointing out that the ruling is not yet final. It is the presumption of innocence. The verdict is in sight.
