Hynes was forced to resign after the Nashville Predators, with captain Josi, missed the NHL playoffs for the first time since the 2013–14 season. Hynes, 48, had been in office just over three years. His assistant Dan Lambert also had to leave the club with him.
Hyne’s replacement, Andrew Brunette, is the fourth head coach in the Nashville Predators’ 25-year history. As a player, the now 49-year-old Canadian wore the jersey of the Tennessee franchise in 1998/99 when they played their first season in the NHL.
The former striker is regarded as a manager with an attacking style of play. In the penultimate season, he led the Florida Panthers as interim head coach – in his first head coaching stint in the NHL – to the best qualifier in franchise history. Last season, Brunette was an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils. (SDA)
