Oliver Kahn’s (53) era as CEO lasted less than two years. During Bayern’s championship celebration, he and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic (46) were fired. Although no successor has yet been determined for the latter, Kahn’s replacement is already clear: Jan-Christian Dreesen.

It’s the logical solution. The 55-year-old has been deputy chairman of the board since 2014 and knows the club through and through. He has been CFO since 2013 and has posted outstanding numbers year after year. But who is the man who must restore peace to the German record champions?

Graduates in business administration can boast extensive experience in managerial positions. Among other things, he was head of the German branch of UBS between March 2008 and September 2009 before becoming a board member of Bayerische Landesbank. He stayed there until 2012, shortly after that he got involved with Bayern.

Dreesen reason for Kahn’s expulsion?

Ten years have passed and a new job is waiting. Actually, the East Frisian already had another plan for the summer: he wanted to leave Bayern – precisely because he had been through everything as a financial boss. But maybe also because he didn’t want to be with Kahn and Salihamidzic anymore.

“Focus” writes that there have always been voices from club circles that spoke of disharmony and opposing views between Dreesen and the now fired ex-professionals. In the “double”, Sport1 editor-in-chief Pit Gottschalk also describes the new CEO as Kahn’s “nemesis”: “He suspects Dreesen is the mastermind behind his dismissal.”

“It was easier for me to make this decision than I thought it would be.”Jan-Christian Dreesen (55), new general manager of Bayern Munich

And now he’s taking over from Kahn instead of retiring. “When I was asked if I could imagine being chairman of the board at FC Bayern, this decision was easier for me than I thought.” In fact, he was also in talks for the main post in the presidium of the German Football League (DFL), in which he has represented Munich since 2016 and is chairman of the licensing committee. He declined, but remains a member.

Dreesen wants to cherish the old and new masters and ensure that peace finally returns to the club. His goals: “There must be more for and with each other again.” He wants to set a good example, because “I think it starts at the top. It’s important to me that we lead by example on the board.”

The East Frisian realizes that “the coming weeks will certainly not be easy” – but that is precisely what makes the task so attractive.
