First failure despite a great start: Teichmann’s bear market continues in Paris as well

1/7
Early out: Jil Teichmann can’t hold the level after a good start.

Bitter: Jil Teichmann (25) gambled away a set lead in Paris – and was kicked out after the first round of the French Open. The native Biel is defeated by former Roland Garros finalist Sara Errani (36) 6:3, 4:6, 2:6.

In the second set, Teichmann can respond to two breaks with a quick re-break before unluckily giving the round with a double fault. And even in the third sentence she doesn’t get as fast as at the start of the duel with the Italian, who, as number 73 in the world, currently has four places ahead of her. After two hours and 18 minutes, Teichmann’s second Grand Slam tournament of the year is a thing of the past.

crisis since the beginning of the year

Teichmann is emerging from a week-long bear market. The last stop was in Strasbourg in the round of 16. Before that, she failed in the first round in Rome, Madrid, Charleston and Miami. She only managed to win two main draws in a row in Indian Wells (out in the third round) and in Reus (Spain/quarter finals). (mpe)
