The last round at Oak Hill Country Club developed into a duel between Koepka and the Norwegian Viktor Hovland, eleventh in the world rankings. For the longest time, the two were only one shot apart, until the decision came on the 16th hole. Hovland hit the ball into a fairway bunker and then caught a double-shot loss. Now Koepka had a four stroke lead. Most recently he was two strokes ahead of Hovland and his compatriot Scottie Scheffler, second in the world rankings.

Koepka is now one of only 20 golfers to have won five or more major tournaments. Of the players still active or semi-active, only Tiger Woods (15 big wins) and Phil Mickelson (6) have managed to do this. The group of 20 golfers is exclusive when you consider that since the establishment of the British Open, tournaments with a Grand Slam character have been held for 163 years.

Brooks Koepka still has many fans, but his popularity has plummeted, especially in the US. A year ago, he left the domestic pro tour that fueled his rise to fame only to be lured into the hundreds of millions of dollars by the Saudi Arabia-funded LIV Tour. (SDA)
