The Dane Holger Rune made a surprise and beat the Serb after almost two hours and fifteen minutes of the match
Denmark’s Holger Rune rang the bell this Wednesday and eliminated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals in three hard-fought sets, 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2, after almost two hours and fifteen minutes of a match that leaves this Masters 1,000 in Rome without a distinct favorite.
Rune will face the winner of the duel between Norwegian Casper Ruud (4) and Argentine Francisco Cerúndol (31) in the semi-finals.
After losing the first set and winning the second set, Djokovic saw the rain prevent him from continuing, as the referees decided to stop the match due to the enormous amount of water that fell in the Italian capital. After spreading the canvas and waiting for it to clear, play resumed and Rune nailed Nole.
