After the goal spectacle in the 7-0 opening win against the Slovenians, a radiant Sven Senteler is standing in the mixed zone and has to answer for himself. The reason? He has just celebrated his World Cup premiere. At 30! He says with a grin: “I’m a late bloomer. I’ve never been in a junior selection, neither in the U18 nor the U20.”

In fact, Senteler played as many Nati games (6) in his entire career as in the past three weeks.

Senteler: Zug’s performance culture has made it even better

The Zug players moved to the national camp in the third week of preparation, having passed after the semi-final against Servette. In the play-offs things did not exactly go smoothly for Senteler, he did not score a single point in eleven games. National coach Patrick Fischer came at the right time. “During the preparation I tried not to think too much about whether or not I could make it to the World Cup.”

That he made it is a double confirmation for the center, who played as a winger against the Slovenians: for his good performances in the friendlies and his development in recent years in the championship team of Zug. “EVZ has a performance culture designed to get better,” says Senteler. “Manager Dan Tangnes pushes everyone to the extreme, whether they are 21 or 34 years old.” The three-time champion is also taking small steps forward, “that’s what brought me here. I’m happy.” A puck from his World Cup debut was secured for the striker.

Fischer: “Norwegians are baby Swedes”

After Slovenia, Norway will wait for the Swiss on Sunday. According to national coach Fischer, his national team has to deal with the role of favorite again. «The Norwegians are more structured than the Slovenes. A kind of baby Sweden with less quality.”

The national coach expressed one point of criticism after the 7-0 win against the Slovenians: when the Swiss slowed down for a few missions in the initial phase of the middle third, the newly promoted team suddenly became dangerous. “They almost misled us when we played a bit casually and no longer entered the duels energetically.” The Swiss can no longer afford that against the Norwegians. Shutout goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni warns: “We have to keep our wits about us.”
