Marcel Bieri, we start the exam with a classic number question. Are you ready?
Marcel Bieri: Math was my favorite subject in primary school. Will that help me? We’ll see that soon.
So then: What is the minimum height of the rolled sawdust in the ring?
It starts well, I can only guess. 15 centimeters?
Very strong, that’s right! Next, the celebrity question: who is the most successful wrestler of all time, as measured by wreaths?
I’m betting on Nöldi Forrer, with his 148 whorls or something.
Good again! Arnold Forrer received a total of 151 wreaths. It goes to the animal kingdom. What is the name of this year’s Unspunnen Schwinget winning muni? Little prankster – the name starts with A.
These questions are difficult. I have no idea. Adonis maybe?
Wrong Araris. Swim over it. For the history question. Where did the Wyberhaken swing get its name from?
And I have to guess. But that has something to do with women. I imagine a wyber hook is something like a high heel? With this swing you have to pull your opponent’s heel away, that should work. Or? (laughs)
Creatively guessed, but also wrong. According to legend, the ancient Confederates taught their wives this swing so that they could defend themselves in the event of an attack. Let’s stay in the past. When did the first Unspunnen Schwinget take place?
It’s a long time ago. Let’s say 1935.
Wrong again. The correct answer is 1805. Let’s come to the conclusion. If we close both eyes very tightly, one is tight enough. Were you a better student in the past?
I wasn’t bad, but definitely very minimalistic. This has continued from first grade through apprenticeship. I didn’t always take homework very seriously. Except in math. I voluntarily solved all the exercises in the exercise book at home and completely turned the teacher’s schedule upside down. That was probably very annoying for him too. He always had to conjure up some special assignments for me.
And how are you doing now as a teacher? Still minimalist? Or even a bad guy?
Luckily neither. Sometimes I want to be stricter, but I’m quite a relaxed teacher. It takes a really long time before I hand out penalties. I want the children to be able to develop at school. I sometimes have background music in my class, which is well received.
Do you have a different status with the students because you are a wrestler?
Not at all. I am even positively surprised how little this subject is discussed in my class and in the school as a whole. I think it is important to separate my private life and my day-to-day work.
So a lesson in the swing basement instead of the gym is not an option?
Yes, during a sports week I offered to teach primary school children how to swing. And I’m sure I made the parents very happy too when their kids came home full of sawdust (laughs)!
Now the Zug Cantonal is just around the corner. Will victory number three follow at the home party?
My last season was pretty mixed. That’s why I don’t want to stack too high. I had extremely high expectations of myself last year and that slowed me down at times. Now this pressure is no longer present. That’s why – a wreath on the Zuger would be great, anything else is a bonus.
