Sha’Carri Richardson wins the women’s 100m race in Doha.

Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson provides the highlight at the opening of the Diamond League in Doha. The American wins the 100m with only a light tailwind in 10.76 seconds.

The only 1.55m tall woman from Dallas beats the higher placed Shericka Jackson (10.85) from Jamaica and Dina Asher-Smith (10.98) from Great Britain.

The 23-year-old Sha’Carri Richardson has not yet fulfilled her potential at major events and wants to catch up at the World Cup in Budapest at the end of August. In 2021 she first attracted attention in 10.72 seconds and also triumphed in the American trials. However, after her victory, she tested positive for smoking a joint. Due to the 30-day doping ban, he was not allowed to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In 2022 she said goodbye to the World Championships in Eugene as a medal candidate in the preliminary round.

No Swiss athletes at the start

Swiss Olympic finalists Mujinga Kambundji and Ajla Del Ponte are currently not fit and will start the season late.

At the first big meeting of the outdoor season, several athletes put in strong numbers. The Slovenian Kristjan Ceh clearly throws the discus over 70 m (70.86), the triple jumper Pedro Pablo Pichardo – the Cuban has played for Portugal since 2019 – is approaching the 18 m mark with 17.91 m, which is rarely exceeded. In the women’s hurdles, three athletes remain below the Swiss record of Ditaji Kambundji (12.70). Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn wins in 12.48 seconds. (SDA)
