Switzerland is in first place with number 204: Heidi Ulrich drives away from everyone in the South of France.

She already has all the records, dominates the world elite at will – and now Heidi Ulrich finally completes her record with the world champion title in fast windsurfing. The 38-year-old from Schwyz crowned himself in La Palme (Fra). Well deserved, but in extremis.

Her win is a precision landing that couldn’t have been more accurate. And which would have been almost impossible. Because just before the start of the competition in the South of France, there is a family incident that initially shocks the athlete: “Of course, family and health always come first,” she says. Nevertheless, the circumstances allow, albeit with a delay, to go to the World Cup.

Ulrich races downhill for nine hours, almost to the French-Spanish border, but misses the first race. Without much recovery, the favorite immediately joins – and thus begins an incredible run towards the title, in which she can also handle the pressure. Because: shortly before the end of the competition it becomes clear that she has to win at least three races to keep her chances. And that’s exactly how it happens: Ulrich drives three races in a row, without a break in between. And wins them all.

“It was a very emotional week – I’m glad I was able to win the title, especially since it was my first world championship,” Ulrich summarized afterwards. In recent years, Corona had thwarted the event.

She would also lead the way with the men

Remarkable: Ulrich, who completed the 500 meters at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour, would also have achieved a respectable result with the men. Despite her physical disadvantages compared to the two-meter windsurf guards, her height of 1.70 meters would have made her into the top 15 of the opposite sex.

The frenzied journey was rounded off with a prompt nine-hour journey home. Because the next day the HR specialist was back at work. Ulrich smiles and says that all this is easy to bear due to her great environment: “It’s cool that I can share these experiences and successes with my loved ones. Having my friend Christian Arnold always there is a huge enrichment for me.”
