Mainz 05 has to do without their Swiss captain Silvan Widmer (30) in the decisive weeks of the season. The right-back will be “missing for the next few weeks due to a capsular and ligament injury in the left ankle,” the Mainz team said after a medical examination on Monday evening.
Widmer was injured in the 0-3 draw in Wolfsburg on Sunday and was substituted. The club left it unclear whether the 30-year-old international would be able to play again at the end of the season. The injury is treated conservatively.
