Mourning in the boxing world: The French boxer Wilfried Florentin († 23) died on Sunday in the Parisian suburb of Créteil.
Florentin also worked as a bouncer in a shisha bar. According to “Le Parisien”, several shots were fired there on Sunday morning around 8:30 am after an argument, two of which hit the boxer in the chest. It is still unclear why the argument broke out, but the police have launched an investigation. After the tragedy, friends took Florentin to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In 2019 Florentin became world junior heavyweight champion (86 to 91 kg), and the then 21-year-old narrowly missed the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Florentin was considered one of France’s greatest boxers and was the father of two children. (byl)
