Murcian defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 and 7-5
Carlos Alcaraz beat Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 7-5 this Sunday and thus qualified for the round of 16 of the Mutua Madrid Open, the fourth Masters 1000 ATP season, where the German Alexander Zverev awaits him.
At the Manolo Santana Stadium, Alcaraz showed a better version against Dimitrov than last Friday during his debut against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori. This time, the Murcian woman defeated her opponent in an hour and a half, who faltered at the beginning of the match, but still managed to fight in the second set.
However, that towing situation eventually took its toll on the Bulgarian. After losing his serve right in the first set, Dimitrov barely bothered Alcaraz and focused his main efforts on the next set.
In fact, the man from Haskovo held a solid serve in the early stages and even made an a break his opponent in the sixth game (2-4). Despite this, Alcaraz immediately retaliated, regained that break and consolidated it with aplomb (4-4). Then Murcian sped up and broke again (6-5) and sealed the victory.
In his third match at Caja Mágica, the El Palmar player will face Sascha Zverev. Therefore, the match that decided the title last year at the same tournament will be replayed. On that occasion, Alcaraz won the aforementioned final with an incredible 6-3 and 6-1 in just over an hour.
