Yabusele, who grabbed Dante Exum by the neck, could face a four-year ban
Independent disciplinary judge Euroleague this friday issues a resolution on the brawl that happened last night during the match between Real Madrid and partisan. With more than a minute to go (80-95), there was a fight in which both benches participated, which ended after several martial arts matches in pairs and groups. After more than ten minutes of arbitration, the match was considered over.
This fight could have big repercussions for both clubs. For this type of case, Euroleague’s disciplinary regime includes various sanctions, says lawyer Yago Casal Mera. Serious behavior can lead to a fine of EUR 30,000 to EUR 280,000. But it doesn’t stop there. Access to pavilions or participation in competitions for one to four years is also prohibited, as well as temporary disqualification (one to four years or three or more matches). A permanent disqualification is even set.
As for minor behavior, it can be sanctioned with a warning, a fine (up to 30,000 euros), a ban on access to pavilions or participation in competitions for a period of one year, as well as a temporary disqualification (up to one year) or up to five games).
Now, the judge must determine what range of these possible sanctions each of those involved falls into. A priori, Yabusel could be one of the most affected, so he will be sentenced to up to four years. He grabbed Dante Exum by the neck, knocking him to the ground. “In my opinion, that would involve serious conduct with the possibility of aggravating circumstances depending on whether the player is actually injured,” explains Casal.
