Milorad Dodik has described the Djokovic family as “gypsy”.

Novak Djokovic (35) participated in the tournament in Banja Luka, Bosnia, last week. This was co-organized by his brother Djordje (27), who was also tournament director. Milorad Dodik (64), chairman of the “Republika Srpska” (Serbian entity in Bosnia), also played a major role in the organization. The politician was interviewed by the Serbian TV channel “RTS” in connection with the tournament.

After the interview – Dodik thought his microphone was off – he made disrespectful and insulting remarks about the Djokovic family. “The Djokovics are really difficult, if you do business with them, they are gypsies,” said the politician.

Apologies by mail

After a media uprising, Dodik released a statement on Wednesday. In it, he says that he never wanted to offend the tennis star’s family: “I respect the success of Novak Djokovic and his entire family. I am glad that I got to know Djordje’s management and leadership skills. And I am still grateful that the tournament took place in Banja Luka. My apologies to all Djokovic’s relatives if anyone was offended by the speculative interpretations on social media.”

In his statement, he also blames the broadcaster for the scandal. To him, it was “unbelievable that they did this to me in such a despicable way”. (nsa)
