Two weeks ago, the American magazine “Time” published its annual list of the 100 most influential people of the year.
One of them in the ‘pioneers’ category is Mikaela Shiffrin (28). In the past season, the ski high-flyer has catapulted itself into new spheres. She became the first American to win the overall World Cup for the fifth time, and with 88 World Cup wins, surpassed the all-time record held by Ingemar Stenmark (67) (86 wins).
“Really Big Problem”
Lindsey Vonn (38, 82 World Cup victories) writes a eulogy for her compatriot on the magazine’s homepage. “Most people thought that record would never be broken and that it’s very important for an athlete to do that,” Vonn said. “With Serena Williams’ retirement from tennis, there is room for another great female superstar in global sport, and Mikaela can take advantage of this opportunity.”
“I can’t put into words what an honor it is to be on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list,” Shiffrin said on Instagram. At the same time, she emphasizes that the successes would never have been possible without family, team, sponsors and fans.
Posing on the red carpet
The gala in honor of the 100 listed took place in New York on Wednesday evening. Among the more than 300 guests: Shiffrin and her friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (30). The two enjoy the glamorous appearance on the red carpet, posing for the photographers.
He is perfectly matched in a tuxedo and she in a sophisticated black dress. On Instagram, Shiffrin gives an insight into the preparation, shows her how her hair is and takes her in the limousine that takes her to the event. “I’m looking forward to a fun night,” she says.
Shiffrin also shows how beautiful it will be. She is enthusiastic about the performance of singer Lea Michele and is happy with the many stars she meets. For example, Shiffrin and Kilde pose for a photo with actors Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler and model Kaia Gerber. “It was so surreal meeting so many incredible people tonight,” Shiffrin captioned the photo. She will certainly not soon forget the evening. (bir)
