That is the conclusion of the Independent Integrity Commission (AIU) of the World Athletics Federation. According to this, association president Gjergj Ruli and general secretary Nikolin Dionisi sent incorrect wind measurement results to the world federation when long jumper Izmir Smajlaj jumped 8.16 m.
The athlete received one of two wild cards for the summer games. In Tokyo, Smajlaj missed the final by 7.86 meters and finished 17th.
Dionisi confessed on some counts. He was sentenced to a four-year suspension. Ruli, who denied the allegations, was removed from office for five years. Smajlaj was acquitted of participating in a conspiracy and his suspension from participation was lifted. (SDA/mab)
