Stefanos Tsitsipas commented on the “GOAT” debate.

Who is the best tennis player of all time? Roger Federer (41), Rafael Nadal (36) or Novak Djokovic (35)? This debate does not seem to be fully resolved to this day. Stefanos Tsitsipas (24) has now responded to this topic. For the Greek, the matter is clear.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper “Marca”, he tells what makes him the “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT). “For me, the GOAT is not the one who has won the most tournaments, the most Grand Slams or the most matches,” Tsitsipas explains.

If he has his way, the influence of a tennis player is crucial. “To me, the GOAT is the person who has gotten the most people into the sport, who has inspired many people to do something with their lives. The person who has made other people happy through their craft and through what they do.”

The Master is the best

The number five in the world has a clear favourite. “I think in this case it’s pretty clear that Roger Federer had a big influence on it, as did Rafael Nadal.” In the past, Tsitsipas made no secret of the fact that the maestro is his idol.

The Greek is currently preparing for his first appearance at the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid. There he will meet the winner of the duel between Briton Kyle Edmund (28) and Austrian Dominik Thiem (29) in the second round. (mab)
