‘I think City will unfortunately beat Arsenal’

The battle between Manchester City and Arsenal continues. In February, the Londoners lost their home game 3-1.

It’s the match all of England has been waiting for. Arsenal currently lead by five points with Granit Xhaka (30). However, the Citizens have two games less with Manuel Akanji (27), are the virtual leader and the last team that can win the triple. In the Champions League they are in the semi-finals, in the final of the FA Cup there is a city derby against United.

The heart of Johan Djourou (36) beats for Arsenal. The Geneva native, who works as a consultant for RTS, began his career in 2004 in London, where he wore the Gunners shirt 144 times. The former defender told Blick: “All signals are green for City. Manchester has closed the gap, is winning and can count on several players who already have experience in such matches. I believe that the citizens will unfortunately prevail.”

The hunger of Guardiola’s team seems insatiable. Djourou does not believe that the many English weeks can become a problem. “When you ride such a positive wave, you forget fatigue.” He sees a failure in the Champions League as the only possible disruptive factor. “A defeat against Real would hurt a lot.”

Arsenal in a mini-crisis

Arsenal are in a mini-crisis after the last three draws. The Gunners lost a 2-0 lead twice, most recently winning a point after trailing 3-1 against Southampton. “It’s still a negative experience if you don’t manage to beat the bottom of the table,” says Djourou. The leader’s burden has become heavier and heavier. “The team has not always managed to manage their emotions.”

Arsenal need at least a point at the Etihad Stadium to keep their hopes up for their first title since 2004, despite holding an eight-point lead by mid-January. “If Arsenal finish second, it wouldn’t be a failure,” said Djourou. It would be the best ranking in seven years. Whether there will be a Swiss duel on the field is an open question. While Akanji is expected to play, Xhaka, who missed Southampton with the flu, is in doubt.
