Did the Bayern bosses not want a summer at all?

According to a new media report, Yann Sommer was not the desired solution for Bayern bosses.

The discussions about Yann Sommer (34) do not stop. Uncertainty on the Swiss side led to Mainz’s equalizer on Saturday and so began Bayern’s defeat. In addition, Bayern is already looking for a new keeper and the German media are even calling for substitute Sven Ulreich (34). New details about the summer deal in the winter are now also revealed.

According to “Kicker”, Yann Sommer should not have been Bayern’s favorite candidate after Manuel Neuer’s injury. Those responsible for Munich already had advanced talks with Nice keeper Kasper Schmeichel (36) and were preparing an offer.

The Danish national goalkeeper would have been ready to move to Munich and sign a contract until the end of the season.

Nagelsmann wild summer

The then Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann (35) vetoed it. He really wanted a German-speaking goalkeeper. In addition, one that would draw for more than half a year. So an agreement was finally reached with Yann Sommer. The Swiss got a contract until 2025.

Perhaps that explains why Thomas Tuchel is rather reserved when it comes to summer. The current Bayern coach tends to praise the recovering Manuel Neuer, whose class and personality he praises.

It is quite unlikely that Tuchel will even respond to the loss of the table leader with a personnel change between posts. Sven Ulreich is unanimously assessed by the experts as less strong than Sommer. But: at Bayern anything is possible at the moment. (byl)
