Sweat, sand, sunshine. Last week, seven wrestlers in Tenerife prepared for the upcoming season. The powerhouses were supported by no strangers. The youngest wrestling king of all time, Adrian Käser (1989, he was 18 at the time), coordinated the trip and accompanied his protégés to Spain. His son Remo Käser was also there. After three difficult years, it was about reconnecting with the top. The 26-year-old from Bern was once considered a top talent, but has been struggling with injuries in recent years. In May 2022, Käser suffered a torn medial ligament in his knee.
Strict training plan
Remo Käser is now sweat fit in Spain. Together with fellow wrestlers Lario Kramer, Thomas Stoll, Andreas Döbeli, Romain Collaud, Patrick Schenk and Dorian Kramer. The program? Difficult. Daily 7:30 am, day awake. Before breakfast we put on our jogging shoes. The body is activated with a two-kilometer run. After a short breakfast, intensive strength training by fitness trainer Andreas Lanz is on the program. In the afternoon there is a bike ride with Adrian or a game of beach volleyball, a tennis match and interval running.
And was there anything fun in Tenerife outside the sports field, for example on the dance floor? Remo Käser denies: “After such a day of training you are quite exhausted and you need sleep to be fit again the next day.” There is a small but: “Some went for a drink after the meal, but on a small scale,” says Käser to Blick.
Usually with the king
The training group for the 2016 Federal Wreath Winner was founded a decade ago. In 2022, the training camp was moved from Sölden to Tenerife. Part of this troop is usually wrestling King Joel Wicki. Because of his training as a farmer, the 26-year-old had to pass this year. (mg)
