Noe Seifert experienced a disappointment on the first day of the apparatus final at the European Gymnastics Championships in Antalya. The 24-year-old from Aargau takes eighth and last place.
Seifert has to bury his medal dream early. He falls on the second diagonal while doing a double somersault forward and only gets 12,800 points. “It was a technical error on my part,” Seifert explained the mishap, continuing, “I actually felt really good despite two all-around fights this week. I wasn’t lacking in strength or stamina at all.”
In qualifying he took 3rd place with 14,300 points. With this total, he would have won the bronze medal in the final. Surprisingly, the German Milan Hosseini secured it with 14,200 points.
Seifert, fifth in the all-around, will have another chance at his first European Championship medal on Sunday. He stands on bridge with bridge in the final, just like veteran Eddy Yusof. EM newcomer Luca Giubellini competes on vault.
Gold on the floor lands Luke Whitehouse, who shines with a triple somersault. With 14,900 points, the only 20-year-old Brit overtakes the not quite fit Olympic champion and title defender Artum Dolgopyat at 0.234 points from Israel. (SDA/dti)
