The Ukrainian Ministry of Sports has banned its athletes from participating in competitions with Russian participation.

The Ministry of Sports of Ukraine has banned its athletes from taking part in official delegations in international competitions in which Russian and Belarusian athletes also participate. Violations threaten national sports federations with the revocation of their official status. The participation of Russians and Belarusians in international events should be controlled by the associations themselves.

The regulation was preceded by a cabinet decision at the end of March. Kiev had previously spoken of boycotting next year’s Summer Olympics in Paris if Russian or Belarusian athletes attended. Russia invaded Ukraine almost 14 months ago. Belarus, an ally of Moscow, allows Russian attacks from its territory. (SDA)
